The secrets of flat lamination

Known for its expertise in profile wrapping solutions and broad experience covering related processes, Duespohl has developed high-performance laminating lines for wood-based and PVC panels used widely in the furniture manufacturing industry. Beyond the excellence of the flat lamination process itself, by combining handling solutions, premelters and glue application systems, Duespohl is able to ensure top-quality results, even supplying combined profile wrapping and lamination lines.

What is flat lamination

As more and more furniture is made with less noble substrates derived from wood, such as chipboard, MDF or plywood, lamination is a process that embellishes the surface of panel, enhancing its appeal and perceived value. The complete process includes handling, glue application, foil application and trimming stages.

Duespohl provides complete lines for the flat lamination of surfaces and edges, simultaneous lamination of upper and lower surfaces, as well as solutions for J-Pull handles used on drawers.

Applications of flat lamination

Whereas wrapping is performed on profiles that are generally narrow elements, flat lamination is a finishing technique used to cover wider elements that can be defined broadly as panels. Specifically, these are wall coverings, furniture bodies, backboards, kitchen cabinet doors, drawers and even doors or panels that are used outdoors. Laminating lines must therefore be able to cope with larger widths and in some cases equipped to laminate surfaces, edges and both sides simultaneously.

Flat lamination: all the benefits

Lamination is an efficient process that enhances the surface of frequently used substrates for products that cannot be commercialised without an appropriate finish. The result is:

  • a perfectly decorated panel that withstands the test of time
  • a perfect joint between the edge and panel surface
  • a quick process that efficiently manages significant volumes
  • a clean, safe, eco-friendly process that is also more energy efficient than others

A perfect flat lamination with Düspohl

Alongside a wide range of profile-wrapping solutions and complementary equipment used throughout the wrapping and lamination process, Duespohl has created 2 machines to decorate wider panels: MultiWrap Wide and PowerWrap Wide.

According to the needs of the customer, these machines laminate surfaces and edges, and in the case of PowerWrap Wide also J-Pull handles. Specific versions will integrate a trimming station and a premelter.

A significant amount of automation built into each system boosts efficiency and ensures repeatable processing accuracy, also optimising costs and alleviating the impact of manual interventions.

MultiWrap Wide

This machine is an ideal choice for boards and panels and handles working widths of 700 or 1000 mm. Incorporating a lamination zone and a wrapping zone, MultiWrap Wide performs surface lamination and edge processing in a single pass. Set-up times are minimised to increase output: transport wheel adjustment, pressure roller positioning without tools. A high-performance premelter and the renowned Slot Coater are standard features. Optional equipment includes an automatic reel change system and a diagonal saw, plus other interesting optional devices.

PowerWrap Wide

Surfaces, edges, recessed grips (J-Pull handles) – all of these are possible with PowerWrap Wide, available for 700, 1000 and 1400 mm working widths. The machine can also be conceived to laminate top and bottom sides of a panel simultaneously. Thanks to its modular design concept, the machine can be configured according to customer requirements. This may include our adhesive preparation and application equipment, and separation systems. Standard equipment features different laminating rollers for different materials, maintenance-free slot nozzle and an energy-efficient premelter for up to 300 kg/h. Milling and trimming units, as well as a synchronised diagonal saw and a wealth of automatic systems are part of the available options.
